Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 20, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what data Bonjour collects, why, and how it's handled. It applies to everyone who uses the Service, whether on a free or paid plan.

1. What we collect

  • Account info: name, email, password (stored as a secure hash), and your chosen plan.
  • Learning data: your progress, quiz answers, flashcard reviews, mock exam attempts, writing/speaking submissions, and self-reported exam target/level.
  • AI interactions: prompts you send to AI Practice, the AI Tutor, and mock exam Writing/Speaking answers, so we can generate exercises and grade your work.
  • Billing info: handled entirely by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number.
  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, and basic device/browser info, for analytics and to keep the Service reliable.

2. How we use it

  • To run the Service: deliver lessons, grade your practice and mock exams, track your progress, and enforce your plan's entitlements.
  • To personalize your experience: recommend content based on your weak areas and level.
  • To communicate with you: streak reminders, exam countdowns, grading notifications, and account/billing notices (you can opt out of non-essential emails in your profile).
  • To improve Bonjour: aggregate, de-identified analytics on how features are used.

3. AI processing

Writing/speaking answers, generated practice content, and AI Tutor conversations are sent to Google Gemini (our AI provider) to generate feedback, grades, or responses. This content is processed to serve your request and is not used by us to train third-party models. Speaking audio is sent for grading and stored so you and, where applicable, our systems can review submissions.

4. Who we share data with

  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • Supabase — our database and file storage provider.
  • Google Gemini — AI generation and grading, as described above.
  • Product analytics — a lightweight analytics tool identifies signed-in users by name and email so we can understand real usage patterns (not for advertising, and never sold or shared onward).
  • We don't sell your personal data, ever.

5. Community & Q&A visibility

Questions you ask in Q&A are visible to our instructors. If a question and its answer are shared to the Community view, your identity is not shown — it appears as "Community member." Leaderboard participation is opt-in and shows your name only if you've turned it on.

6. Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we delete or anonymize personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain records (e.g. billing history) by law.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Signed-in learners can make a request from Help & Support in the app.

8. Cookies & analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We also run a product-analytics script that identifies signed-in users by name and email so we can see how features are actually used and fix what's broken — this is not advertising, and we don't use third-party advertising cookies or sell any data collected this way.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures (encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access controls) to protect your data. No system is 100% secure, but we work to keep yours safe.

10. Changes to this policy

We'll update the date above whenever this policy changes. Material changes will be communicated in-app or by email.

11. Contact

Questions about this policy or your data? Signed-in learners can reach us from Help & Support in the app.
